Eat Local Challenge
Goal:
Goal of 300 people! Currently at 769 (256.33%).
Kanu Hawaii is challenging everyone to eat local during the week of August 8 to 15. Join the Campaign by committing to eat entirely locally-grown food for that week, or take any of the other actions listed below.
If you're not sure about whether something is "local" (e.g., is tofu "local" if it uses imported soy beans? beer with imported hops?), no worry. Post questions in the discussion space. We'll learn together about the challenges of eating local, the importance of local food sources, and what changes are needed to make our food supply more sustainable and secure.
Most importantly, share what you do! Post pics, stories, etc. in your Journal (under the "My Pages" tab when you log-in). Share where you found the best local lettuce, what your meals have been like, if you're starving or thriving. You can also just email your thoughts to tellkamaile@kanuhawaii.org. Tell each other, what’s hard or easy, whether you’re starving and sick, or if you've found the best homemade jelly to go along with sweetbread...mmmm.
Now is the time to get your family, friends, and co-workers involved. Make time to discuss meal plans, check out cookbooks written by local chefs, set up an eat local lunch, or host a local foods buffet. The options are endless! Have fun with it… local style.
