So far Kale's has been featured for the local produce, products and ono dishes the deli prepares but in addition, Kale's is also committed to reducing waste:
DELI -Food scraps are used for broth or fed to line chef's chickens -Take-out containers are biodegradable -Containers are reused when possible so many of their ingredients are stored in yogurt containers or old apple sauce jars.
STORE -Food is donated to Hawaii Food Bank 2x a week so instead of going to waste or being thrown out. -All glass and plastic is recycled within the store -You can buy grains, beans, snacks, shampoo, soap, herbs, seasonings etc.... in BULK

Kale's makes amazing fresh and local food to order but their creme de la creme products are their baked goods. Go in mid-morning for the hot-out-of-the-oven cookies that baker extraordinaire Jenn Hee whips up out of organic, local, vegan, and scrumptious ingredients. When can you really find vegan foods that actually taste good? I'm a hardcore meat eater and can be converted to vegan goodness by Baker Hee. You can tell the bakery cooks with a ton of integrity, heart and love. Hmmm...I think I'm going right now!
I'm definitely making Moloka'i Sweet Potato Mochi this week. I have also been dreaming of a mochi with an ulu layer and coconut haupia mochi called: 1.5 haole. ;) Welcome to the organic-sugar coated thoughts of HEE! Thanks for the vegan baking love.
What I appreciate most about Kale's is the care and thought put into each dish whether it's their Mixed Macro Plate, Chipotle Meatloaf, Kale Smoothies etc... and you can't leave without a freshly baked death my mocha or ginger snap cookie. I also recently learned that the Ladies of Kale's bake their own bread daily!
