  1. I just updated Foodland's Profile because in addition to the supermarket being a tremendous resource and partner for Eating Local, Foodland is also 'committed to waste reduction, recycling, purchasing recycled products, (reducing energy use) and supporting environmental community programs.'

    Results:
    1) Diverts 900,000 pounds of meat/seafood a year from 19 Oahu stores to be converted into agricultural feed

    2) Diverts 670,000 pounds a year of produce scraps from 14 stores to pig farmers

    3) Diverts another 300,000 pounds of organic waste a year from five stores to be converted into electricity and organic fertilizer

    4) Recycles 500,000 pounds of corrugated cardboard annually

    5) Averages 30 percent savings in electric bills since retrofits with high-efficiency ballasts and fluorescent lighting tubes and energy-efficient air-conditioning systems

    6) Donates over 45 tons of food a year to the Hawaii Food Bank

    Savings: More than $200,000 annually

I love that I can always find a great selection of locally grown produce at Foodland. Our "home Foodland" has become Foodland Farms in Aina Haina - and my children love picking their "Candy Apple" Bananas, veggies and even locally grown potatoes.

This is my go-to grocery store. They have pretty competitive prices on great local produce - and I appreciate the signs throughout the store that tell you what's locally grown. On my most recent visit I was thrilled to see this new display of "Just Picked: Fresh from the Farm" MA'O veggies!
If you haven't checked out Foodland's website yet you're missing out: http://www.foodland.com/ They even have video tours of the farms that grow your produce!

Would you kokua and log in? All features are turned on when logged in. Mahalo!
