I came back to Hawai'i hoping to begin my career in the environmental field for one reason: Hawai'i is home, and it is the most beautiful place on earth. Even in the urban concrete of downtown Honolulu I can sense the beauty and sacredness of this place.
The size of our community, in the policy arena, means that sometimes special interests can take hold which do not necessarily have the best interests of the community at heart or keeping balance with the environment in mind. However, I have also seen that the positive side to this is that, to paraphrase Margaret Mead, a small group of people commmited to working for change can really make a difference. I am energized by seeing all of us, as members of Kanu Hawaii, come together to create a community of change.
