About me

I've lived on O'ahu just about my entire life. I can't imagine living anywhere else. Every time I go to the continent it's always an interesting visit, but I can't wait to come back. It's huge up there. Sure there's lots of space for a big McMansion, but everything is SO far. And I mean way more than our idea of "anything longer than 20-minutes by car is far" far. So I'm always happy to be back home, like a snug little 'Opihi in it's shell.

Why I love Hawaii

There is just something so profound about Hawai'i that feeds my soul. I get caught up in the rush of things just like everyone else. But at least one moment everyday I see something that stops me in my tracks and I am so thankful to be where I am. Sometimes it's just the nice Samoan security guard I see on my walk to work who has a "Hello" and "Good Morning" for everyone who walks by. Sometimes it's the sound of the wind rustling through the coconut leaves and the feel of the trade winds blowing. Or looking up at the Pali and watching the clouds slowly moving down the mountain, filtering the beautiful sunshine. Being able to smile at people and having them smile back just because.

My interests

Food. Sleep. Food. Reading, learning, cooking/baking, working (what can I say, I'm very lucky in that I like my job and enjoy going to work). Learning about how to move towards living a sustainable lifestyle. Enjoying the natural beauty of Hawai'i and discovering new things I didn't know about the place I call home. Oh, and did I mention Food? Wouldn't want to miss that. ; )

Over 200 donors are needed everyday in order to meet the blood needs of Hawai'i. The Blood Bank of Hawai'i must serve not only O'ahu, but all of the outer islands as well. Sadly, the number of people who donate are dropping because of travel to areas that 'cause deferrals, illnesses, or just the...

A friend taught this to me several years ago. Since we won't have any local rice until people take up rice farming again, we can at least have some other yummy carbs in the form of our lovely Okinawan Potatoes. And they're a dark PURPLE (one of my favorite colors), what an added bonus!! :D So no...

This is my VERY first blog post.....EVER. As most of my friends know, I've been really resistant to the whole social networking/media movement. No thank you to FB or Twitter for me. My phone can't text, has a monochrome screen, and an antenna. I only upgraded from dial up to DSL two years ago. ...
