Solar Net Generation

Jun 05, 2009

Last month was my first month with less than 1 KwH of electrical usage from Hawaii Electric. This month I generated more than I used. Even better, I generated enough credits to make up for my connection fee to the grid and more!

I'm really excited about this, but it took a while. Over 5 years i have been adding more Photovoltaic solar modules to my house. 36 panels and two inverters later, I've arrived.

Just in time for oil to hit a 2009 peak :)

Congrats Russell! Very impressive and excellent leadership ... you are a role model to all of us. If you visit my home page, I have posted articles about a new type of wind generator as well as the latest innovation in solar water heaters coming from China. Keep up the great work!

Wow! Have you done the math analyzing the economics of your system?

Since most of this was funded by tax breaks it was very economical. The post tax cost was about $19,000 for everything. I figure that it will pay for itself in about 5 - 7 years depending on the price of electricity ($.50 kWh - $.29 /KwH ) after that the revenue keeps on adding up. If I can get a plug in electric car the savings will rack up even faster.
