i miss my yard
Aug 08, 2009
i'm sitting in my appt (which has not balcony), thinking about the days i grew my own soybeans, eggplant, herbs and flowers. its been about 2.5 years since i had the luxury of doing so...and now i try to get my fill by going to my parents' home and puttering in their yard.
mom has the green thumb for flowers & all non-edible plants. dad is the farmer...grows everything from lettuce, corn, papaya, eggplant, soybeans, tomatoes, araimo, cucumber, pineapple...and i remember a time they grew watermelon & string beans (i guess it didn't do well in kaneohe). dad helps the neighbor with their garden too - the older boys (elementary age) help my dad and their dad too...so cute!
now as i contemplate moving, i have a requirement that it be somewhere i can grow things to eat. while it is enjoyable to putter in my parents' yard, i miss the fulfillment of cultivating a little bit of nourishment for myself.
