To kick off our Eat Local Challenge week, we will be partnering up with MA'O Organic Farms in Wai'anae for a special GIVE (Get Involved Volunteer Environmentally) Day on Saturday, September 25th from 9am -12pm.

MA'O, which stands for Mala'ai 'Opio, or "Youth Garden" is not just an organic farm; it is a social enterprise that "grows" youth leaders as well as quality healthy produce. The profits from the farm fund youth programs at Wai'anae Intermediate and Wai'anae High School, as well as providing full college scholarships for the farm's youth interns. GIVE Days allow anyone from the community to interact with and help the youth interns to maintain the farm and to be a part of their mission to positively change the Wai'anae community.

Kanu Hawaii has reserved 15 spots for our members to volunteer on the farm at our special Eat Local GIVE Day. Please sign up via the Campaign Action at www.kanuhawaii.org/eatlocal to be a part of this event!

The video above was made at the wrap of the Eat Local Challenge 2009.
