Got Aloha for a Teacher?
A beach cleanup is a great way to start the new year! Thanks to Sustainable Coastlines, Kokua Hawaii Foundation and Plastic Free Hawaii for organizing the cleanup at James Campbell Wildlife Refuge on January 16, 2012. It was a beautiful day and it felt great to be one of the 274 volunteers ready to make a difference. And as a bonus, Jack Johnson was there! AND I got a picture with him! :)
Here are the result highlights that I pulled from the Sustainable Coastlines website:
21,000 pieces of Microplastic
1,400 Caps and Lids
3,762 pounds removed
65% Audited

Their next beach cleanup is at Bellows Beach in Waimanalo on February 18th. For more pictures of the cleanup, visit http://sustainablecoastlineshawaii.org/.
