Healthy Climate Communities
Healthy Climate Communities works in collaboration with Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) , local schools and other community groups to restore the watershed for Hāmākua wildlife sanctuary and, adjacent Pu’u o Ehu Hillside. Since 2015 we planted thousands of native and endemic plants, including many that are threatened or endangered Caring for native plants is a tough job made possible by be the many who volunteer with their stewardship. Come volunteer every Monday from 4pm-6pm. Its a great way to start the week, make friends and enjoy the outdoors! Options to schedule group volunteer days are also available. Please bring water, closed toed shoes, comfortable clothes and water. We will provide the tools. one time waiver is needed.

Today, Healthy Climate Communities employees part time land managers and educators to work in collaboration with the Hawaiʻi State Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) and their biologists. With the help of local schools and community groups, the Pu’u o Ehu Hillside and watershed of Hāmākua Marsh is home to thousands of rare and endangered native and endemic plants, including ko’oloa’ula, wili wili, koa and Hawaiʻi state flower, mao hau hele. Caring for these plants continues to be a tough job made possible through education and action and by 100ʻs of dedicated and caring individuals working together to make a difference.
