Harold K.L. Castle Foundation awards Kanu Hawaii $50,000 to pilot a new platform for SNAP and Medicaid recertification

Kanu Hawaii has received a $50,000 grant from the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation to pilot a new platform that links Hawaiʻi residents who need to recertify for SNAP and/or Medicaid benefits with volunteer opportunities.

The Foundation’s Directors approved the grant on September 3, 2026. It covers twelve months, from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, and funds the first phase of the work: a system that turns volunteer service hours into a verified record, put into service first in two Oʻahu communities.

Mahalo to the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation for its support. The Foundation announced the grant in its September 2026 newsletter. The grant is also listed on the Foundation’s Recent Grants page.
