Molokaʻi Gorilla Ogo Cleanups

What We Do

Aloha! This group was formed by community members in response to the infestation of Gorilla Ogo, an invasive limu, along our South Shore.

Who We Are

Gorilla Ogo is an invasive seaweed that poses a threat to our marine ecosystem and way of life on Molokaʻi.Over the past year, a group of lawaiʻa and community members have come together to learn best practices for removing Gorilla Ogo and host small cleanups. So far, weʻve removed nearly 16,000 pounds of Gorilla Ogo in 2021, all of which has been used as compost to support local farmers. Weʻre now looking for volunteers to participate in the short training that weʻve put together, kokua at clean ups, and transport the removed limu in bags up to composting sites. Please send us an email if you are interested in coming out and want to learn more!
