Bookstore Volunteer Opportunities

Friends of the Library of Hawaiʻi

We are looking for volunteers to staff our bookstore. Volunteers will help out as door monitors/greeters and floaters, adders, and relief. Door montiors greet customers and also oversee capacity and pandemic safety compliance. Floaters, adders, and relief assists cashiers by adding large book purchases, monitoring the store and the tables, relieving any volunteers in need of a break, and reshelving books. There are two shifts, a day shift and an afternoon shift. If volunteers can only work partial shifts that would be fine as well. For more information or to sign up please visit https://friendsofthelibraryofhawaii.org/volunteers/ Village Books & Music at Ward is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM till 7 PM and Sundays from 10 AM till 5 PM. Closed on Mondays. Through the generostity of Ward Village and Hawaʻi State Federal Credit Union, Friends of the Library of Hawaiʻi can pivot and offer the same great books, music, media, art, and records that were previously unavailable with the cancellations of our three major book sales due to the pandemic. Village Books & Music at Ward will allow FLH to provide a safe shopping experience without the crowds that are usually associated with our book sales. We will adhere to safety protocols required by both the State and the City and County of Honolulu. Temperature checks, hand santizer prior to entry, wearing face masks, social distancing, limiting the number of people in the store, and other safety measures will be required. Safety of our volunteers, staff, and customers is a major priority for FLH.
