As The Ethel Gathering Organizer, you will be pivotal in fostering connections and creating memorable experiences within The Ethel community. You can bring women together, organize events in your community, and contribute to a vibrant and growing network. This network started with The Ethel newsletter, designed to celebrate and champion the idea of older women owning their age, focusing on the 55+ audience. The free weekly newsletter, website, and social community is named after AARP Founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, who once said, “Old age is not a defeat, but a victory, not a punishment, but a privilege.” Building on the growth and excitement surrounding The Ethels’ get-togethers nationwide, we are creating a new program for organizing local gatherings in your area. We hope this will help make connecting with your fellow Ethels more streamlined and ensure local groups are safe and positive spaces for our fantastic community.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and organize engaging The Ethel Gathering events in your area (we suggest at least three times a year but feel free to organize as many as you like).Encourage and welcome members to also plan local gatherings and engagements.Serve as a moderator on a local regional Ethel closed Facebook group we’ll set up for you.Responsibilities include responding to inquiries, sharing event details, and ensuring a positive attendee experience.Attend quarterly meetings to report on learnings, share best practices, and brainstorm.

Qualifications

Seeking volunteers who are enthusiastic and community-oriented members of The Ethel Circle to take on The Ethel Gathering Organizer roles.

Training

Technology support as needed, including Facebook group administration

Location

Virtual/In-Person

Time Commitment

The time commitment for this role will vary based on event planning and coordination needs. On average, expect to dedicate a few hours every few months, including event planning and communication. Events can include anything from a lunch or coffee at a local diner to a walk through a park that involves a handful of people to a larger volunteering activity that helps families in need over the holidays that involves over a dozen people.
