Volunteer Engagement Manager
Recycle Hawaiʻi currently has a variety of volunteer positions available to fill!
Our first position is to find that special volunteer interested in taking on the responsibilities of being our Volunteer Engagement Manager. The VEM is responsible for cultivating, growing, managing and sustaining a new core of volunteers working under the direction of the Board of Recycle Hawaii. We also have volunteer needs for:Presenters – those who love teaching others how to recycle and compost, especially to school groups
Booth Staffers – who love interacting with a variety of people at community events to share and learn about reducing, reusing and recycling
Behind the Scene Helpers – who like managing materials and contacts, and/or doing the odd jobs that support the organization, including fundraising
Researchers – who love digging into resources that can help move us to a more sustainable Island
Journalists – to post on our Facebook page and contribute articles and photos for newsletters and this website
Grant Writers – help us get funding for our community work

About the organizer
Recycle Hawaii collaborates with island communities on educational efforts and effective climate action to transform the global culture of waste into one that supports a vibrant planet. As an organization, we have a vision for an island that uses fewer materials and recovers those materials that are used for repurposing on or off the island. Recycle Hawaii as a 501(3)(c) nonprofit has existed since 1992 and been dedicated to reducing waste in the County of Hawai’i though educating the public in a variety of means – presenting workshops on recycling and composting; creating a website for the pubic; working with schools through Recycle Bowl and our Upcycling Art programs while also making classroom presentations; fielding calls and email inquiries about reuse and recycling on island. A major service is our Residential Recycling Guide, formerly an annually published document and now updated constantly on our website. We have also promoted landfill waste diversion by implementing programs such as transfer station reuse centers and a Do-It-Yourself motor oil program. We have worked and continue to work with other NGOs such as Keep America Beautiful, Hawaii Wildlife Fund and Zero Waste Big Island.
