What We Do

Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer with the VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement Services. 

Please see our list of Volunteer Programs available:

DAV Volunteer Driver Program – Pickup VA vehicle at Spark M. Matsunaga Medical Center, drive to pick up Veteran from their home and take them to their appointment, return them to their home and return VA vehicle to Spark M. Matsunaga Medical Center. Support is from Mon-Sat 0700-1630 hrs – whatever days you are available. Must be 21 yrs of age. If you are interested in this program, CDCE will need to forward you different instructions and forms.

Red Coat Ambassador (most popular)  Assist Veterans within the Spark M. Matsunaga Medical Center to their specific clinic by wheelchair or walker and/or share information of the facility and campus. Facility Volunteer Hours: Mon-Sat 0700-1630 hrs – Whatever hours you are available during these hours.
Compassionate Contact Corps (CCC) – Volunteer is matched with a Referred Veteran for regular communication. Availability is any time at least once a week for at least 15 minutes (Virtual Volunteering).
MyHealtheVet Champion – Assist Veterans within Spark M. Matsunaga Medical Center in registering with MyHealtheVet website, or having difficulty utilizing their smartphone in navigating the MyHealtheVet website. A specific computer and desk is in place on the 2nd floor behind the staircase.

Community Living Center (CLC) (Is a VA 24 Hour Care Facility) – Assist Recreation Therapist with activities of the day. Facility Volunteer Hours: Sun-Sat 0900–1400 hrs or according to the service’s needs. Volunteer will need to be COVID Tested prior to their designated volunteering.

As a VA volunteer, you’ll support Veterans in your area, meet interesting people, and gain valuable experience in a health care setting. You’ll also enjoy benefits like:

Who We Are

VA Pacific Islands Healthcare System depends on the goodwill of donors and volunteers who want to give something back to America’s heroes. Volunteers provide much-needed help throughout the health care system and make patients’ experiences more enjoyable. Many different volunteer opportunities are available, and each volunteer’s talents are closely matched with one of our assignments. Volunteers can choose to serve at the Spark Matsunaga VA Medical Center or Community Living Center.
