4th Sunday of Every Month Ka’ehu Cleanup (Maui)

SHARKastics

Please meet us at the end of Kukona Place in Wailuku Maui at 9am (please wear sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting sandy/salty plus sun protection and bring water/snacks).  After an orientation about beautiful Ka’ehu, we’ll be distributing cleanup supplies and heading to the beach to collect marine debris.  Once we fill up our buckets, we return to the tents to weigh/sort/count each piece using a data sheet with ~100 categories.  These data are added to our ongoing collection since 2012.  So far, we’ve removed over 29 tons from Ka’ehu!

We’re generally done by ~noon.  🙂
Mahalo!

About the organizer

SHARKastics has been “taking a bite out of marine debris since 2003” around Maui Nui and beyond!  Besides conducting frequent coral reef cleanups, we spearhead our 4th Sunday of every month Ka’ehu Cleanups and compare these research results with what we find at Makamaka’ole twice per year.  Sharing the data we collect allows us to apply our results to local legislative actions that encourage more sustainable practices compared to plastic-based options that are so pervasive in our throw-away society.  We’re volunteer-based, with opportunities for all ages to join us!
