Coordinator for Dormitory ~ Help Homeless Youth

Project Hawaiʻi, Inc

Aloha,
Project Hawai’i, Inc. is a volunteer staffed nonprofit seeking a coordinator who has amazing communication skills and fundraising abilities.
Our agency is opening a first of it’s kind dormitory for homeless young ladies to attend college. Our dormitory residency program is offered free of charge to the youth; therefore, we need to provide the support they will need. Our goal for the dormitory is more than just a place to live for homeless youth to live while attending college, but to build the life and social skills they need to succeed in school and after graduation. Our entire program is fully staffed by volunteers and solely supported by public donations. With this in mind, we are seeking someone who shares our values to helping the homeless population escape their cycle of poverty. The ideal volunteer will be sociable and have the passion to influence change needed for the next generation to prosper. Our agency is very forward thinking, full of dedicated team members who are focused on creating a caring environment for the girls to learn and grow with healthy habits.
While this position is virtual and can be done during your schedule, we are seeking someone who is familiar with the local area to build the relationships for self sustaining support.
Our goal is to have a partnership with local companies that will continue to provide the support needed for the girls. Example, a local company who makes shampoo/soaps, hygiene could make a monthly contributions of their supplies, or a local retailer will allow the girls a set amount of funds or list of clothing for the girls to start school, connect with a computer company to provide laptops, etc.

This position is also perfect to be used as a internship or practicum. We are a registered nonprofit that accepts internships for up to 6 months/ 300 hours.

The dormitory coordinator position will require

  • Creating and organizing a communication campaign to approach businesses, individuals, groups, and the community for the support needed.
  • Develop and manage social media awareness of needs with our Canva app. Including creating shoutouts for donors to share their support.
  • Inspire the community through relationship development to maintain long term commitment for in-kind donations
  • Create a Amazon Wish List account for ongoing support
  • Create and maintain the performance reports with lists of sponsors and the contact person.
  • Recruit volunteers where needed for fundraising events, auctions, or other options open for our agency to participate in. There are many community events we get invited to for awareness tables, etc.

Dormitory Needs for 6 -10 girls:

  • Laptops
  • Monthly hygiene /Bathroom Support
  • Bedding/Room support (every two years)
  • Meal Support / Sponsored Meals or Funding
  • Transportation Funding
  • Clothing / Gift Cards or Shopping Sponsorship
  • Laundry Supplies / Cleaning Supplies

Workshop/Activities:
We are looking to partner with the community to introduce the young ladies to a variety of wellbeing and life skills training. Our goal is to provide a few workshops a month on our premises. Providing the girls with life and social skills they will need to learn before graduating and entering the real world on their own. We do have a large wellness outdoor center/with an outdoor cook area, perfect for classes, or yoga, arts, etc.
Connecting with individuals who love giving back and would make a commitment to provide their services to our young ladies.

Time commitment for this position.
We anticipate it will take between 45-60 days to coordinate and make the connections needed. Once donors and sponsors are in place, we feel the program will then require once a month checking in and thanking the donors. Once we are established, this would work on auto pilot with the right person who loves to keep the communication relationships open.

TIMELINE: Our dormitory is set to open in August and will be moving the girls in the first week prior to their college start date. We are hoping to have all donations and sponsors on board by June.
