Kona Low Storm Recovery — Hawaiian Humane Society Pet & People Support

Hawaiian Humane Society

The Hawaiian Humane Society continues to support pets and families affected by the Kona Low storms. Over 600 animals have been taken in since the storms, with ongoing programs to help both pets and their people.

Important: The Hawaiian Humane Society is not currently seeking additional general volunteers. The best ways to help right now are through fostering or adopting.

Current programs:

  • Hope After the Storm — adoption special with waived fees for adult dogs (7+ months) through April 30, 2026. Walk in to adopt!
  • Foster Program — 100 Foster Challenge orientations completed; fostering still available via standard application at hawaiianhumane.org/foster
  • Couch Crashers — walk-in foster program, low barrier to entry
  • Pet Food Bank — free pet food for families in need

About the organizer

The Hawaiian Humane Society is dedicated to promoting the human-animal bond and the humane treatment of all animals. We work towards creating a truly humane society based on compassion and shared responsibility. We envision a community in which every companion animal has a home – a community in which people highly regard and care for their own animals and all animals on O’ahu.

We are guided by the ideals of Socially Conscious Sheltering and are committed to seeking the best possible outcome for animals in our care and in the community we support.
