Since 2017, the Hawai‘i Wildlife Center’s Oʻahu Seabird Aid (OSA) program has provided help to downed seabirds during the peak of fallout season. Seabird fallout season is our busiest time of the year, with hundreds of downed birds being brought to our team for physical examination and care. In the 2024 season, 645 ʻuaʻu kani (wedge-tailed shearwaters) were cared for on Oʻahu alone. Our O‘ahu-based staff works with drop-off locations and our veterinary partners to get birds examined, stabilized, and on to release. Peak seabird fallout (the busiest part of the season) is November 12 through November 30.
