Ua volunteer workday

Understory Alliance

Kauaʻi Animal Education Farm
9-11 am

We invite you to our monthly volunteer workday at the Mala Laʻau Project on the
2nd Sunday of every month (unless this falls on a holiday) from 9 -11 am.

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to care for the Mala Laʻau by weeding, feeding, and watering the plants, as well as monitoring their growth. Not only will you be helping to maintain this vital community resource, but you will also be learning about the importance of bio-cultural forest gardens and their impact on food security and local ecosystems.

To participate, please sign up using this form. We ask that you bring your own water and sun protection and wear weather-appropriate work clothes.

We cannot wait to work with you in the Mala Laʻau!

Our project creates and cares for small, ecologically sustainable, and immersive multifunctioning forest systems, which we call Māla Lā`au, UA’s take on a forest garden.

Our forest garden will predominantly comprise native plant species, appropriate noninvasive food trees, and culturally significant plants. This pocket-sized forest garden is easily accessible enough to be woven into the fabric of our everyday lives while growing in balance with and including people.
