What We Do

Understory Alliance is growing our first forest garden in order to contribute to Climate Equity & Environmental Justice with

BIOCULTURAL DIVERSITY & FUNCTION

ACCESS TO NATURE

COMMUNITY HEALTH

FOOD SECURITY

& CLIMATE RESILIENCE

Our project creates and cares for small, ecologically sustainable, and immersive multifunctioning forest systems, which we call Māla Lā`au, UA’s take on a forest garden.

Our forest garden will predominantly comprise native plant species, appropriate noninvasive food trees, and culturally significant plants. This pocket-sized forest garden is easily accessible enough to be woven into the fabric of our everyday lives while growing in balance with and including people.
